Temperature problem

Need your help guys.

This actually concerns my pine snake but would be the same for corns I guess.

Ive got her in a large plastic blanket box (contico) at the moment ( as shes only a baby) , which is about 16" x 22" with a heat mat underneath which covers roughly half of the box. Normal sorta set up , but now the weathers turned colder Im having trouble getting the temp above 79 degrees , and thats with the heating in the house on.

I know 79f is at the lower end of "ok" but id like to get it up if i can. Its not the sort of box you can put a light in or above either (i tried that with a smaller one and it got too hot).

My corns are fine at 82-84f at the hot end, but theyre in smaller boxes

any ideas?

cheers

I had this prob in my flat. We have huge floor to cieling wondows so keeping any room warm is a problem! I have moved my snakes into the airing room (no windows and it hes the boiler in there too). the temps are now fine, all I have to do is make sure there is a light on during the day and switched off at night. Do you have a room like this?

As we live in a smallish flat , all we have are two usuable rooms including the bedroom but I dont really want to keep the snakes in there as its far noisier (pc , tv etc) and also , being a smoker *tsk* I prefer to keep the snakes in the "smoke free zone" if poss , so moving rooms isnt really an option :(

Ive tried moving her further away from the window this morning (no double glazing yet :( ) and that seems to have helped a bit. I know cornsnakes prefer a smaller enclosure while theyre young but Im not sure if the same applies to my Pine. If not I guess Ill have to put her in a proper viv sooner rather than later so I can heat it properly.

The things we do for our pets huh? lol :D

You might try picking up a large scrap cardboard box. Use it or pieces of it on the window side(s) and top as a draft shield and insulation. Good luck.
