Better to feed adult mouse 1x a week or small rat ever few weeks?

My corn is nearly 480 g right now and is getting 1 mouse (18-20g) 1x a week (I usually miss the feeding and ends up being a little more than week). I'm currently running out of my last order of mice and am faced with either getting another shipment of adult mice to continue this feeding schedule, or switch him over to small rats and extending the feeding interval to 2 or more weeks. Any suggestions? Thanks.

For a corn an adult rat is pretty big in my opinion and a fattier food source at that. Stick to one or two adult mice every 10-14 days:)

Also, is 480 g overweight? He doesn't have those fatty deposits, but I am not sure what weight he is supposed to max out at and he seems to just keep growing..

And each corn is going to grow individually. Some members on this forum have corns that weigh upwards and above 600g! :}

Feel free to post pictures. That way we could give you a better answer on whether he's chubs or not.

Based on info from my herp vet, it's healthier to feed smaller meals more often, so they don't develop fatty deposits on their liver and other organs. For an adult corn, 1 adult mouse every 7-10 days is appropriate.

I would say stick with one adult mouse every week. Once your corn hits at least the 1,000g mark, you can think about small rats (or weanlings).

Bear in mind that you don't have to keep increasing the size of food items once a Corn hits adult size (about three years old). That's how my Mum ended up 22 stone!

Your Corn doesn't need to keep growing, it just has to maintain a healthy weight/size (which is an individual thing).

My males and non-breeding female adults get one large mouse every two or three weeks (depending on season and general health). Seems to work for them.
