What's going to happen when the power goes off?

This might be the stupidest question ever, but I just got to thinking: The wind blows wrong at our house and our power goes, and we are expecting a horrendous winter storm tonight with 50mph winds. Right now our cage temp is around 70 degrees, and Slim seems to be doing fine-eating, pooping, shedding just like normal. What do I do if the heat goes off in the house and there is no UTH or lamp on her? Do I thow layers of towels in for her to bury herself in to try and keep warm or what?
Thanks!

It is now a big worry. The power would have to be off for a really long time before you needed to even think about it. My breeders are being brumated right now at 50* and will remain there for 3 months. If you really get nervous, fill a quart jar with hot water and put that in with the snake and then bury him with towels.

Thanks! I figure that in the wild they usually just go underground and hibernate, so it proabably wasn't a big deal, but then I thought about the fact that she was just fed on Sunday and has not had a chance to digest her food yet and don't want a bad outcome if the heat is out. Odd that my first thought about the power being out was not my kids freezing, but my snake!!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Last December, we went through an ice storm and lost power for a week. The average temp in the house during that week, fluctuated between 40F at night and 50-55F during the day. All of my snakes were fine. I did add a bunch of substrate to their tubs, so they could burrow down deep.

Good Luck

Wayne
