no emails...

Hi!
Ever since we went over to the new server, I have not been getting email notifications when I get private messages or when subscribed threads have a new post. I figured the defaults had been changed when we went to the new server. However, when I went into my options, email notification was still selected. Any idea why I am not getting emails? I don't really mind not getting the "new post" emails, but the private message notices are nice to have. Thanks a lot for any help.

There is no reason I am aware of why it should have stopped working. I just got done rebooting the server because of some sluggishness I've noted over at FaunaClassifieds, but I don't know it that will have made a chance in your problem or not.

Come to think of it, I haven't been getting email notifications about private messages either...

Hmm, well I checked my blocked addresses to make sure I didn't accidentally send it there, and it wasn't there, and I checked to make sure my email was still correct on my user cp. The only other thing I can think of is perhaps yahoo now sends these emails to my bulk mail? I don't even open my bulk mail folder, it just goes straight to the abyss. Gee, a whole lot of other bulk mail still makes it though to my inbox though. I guess next time someone replys to a subscribed thread, I'll check my bulk mail and go from there. Weird. I thought maybe I had disabled this function at some time, since I do get a bunch of bounced emails when people will subscribe to a thread then change their email address. But no, I didn't do that. Matter of fact, I recall getting an email from someone remarking on the email contact not that long ago and was surely after the server move.

I subscribed to this thread to see if I get emails myself when replies are made to it.

BTW, when you check your USER CP, does it show subscribed threads there?

Aha! I caught it. Thanks again for your reply, I just checked my bulk mail and there is one lonely message in there from Cornsnakes.com regarding the thread "no emails". (I had already sent this mornings bulk mail to the abyss before I realized that yahoo may be sending them there). However, things must have been very prompt on your end since you just replied and the message is already in my bulk mail. And yes, my user cp was showing me subscribed threads. I should have known it was yahoo. :blowup: I'll see if the computer whiz hubby can make it stop going there. Thanks a lot for your help Rich!

Yeah, I'm getting the notices myself, so at least I know the problem isn't on this end.

Many of the bulk emailers are making the moats around themselves wider and deeper because of the flood of SPAM lately. AOL is pretty tough to get a legitimate email through to anymore. Basically SPAM is at the verge of shutting down the useability of email completely as people get tired of it and put in controls to contain it. I have levels of protection at the server level, and within my mail reader and stuff STILL gets through. Yeah sometimes a legitimate email may get lost because of it, but the alternative is that I have to wade through 300 SPAM emails per day.

As a matter of fact, the notices from my subscription to this thread show up in my DELETED folder in Outlook Express, as something in it does not pass all the tests to get through to my INBOX.

Let's face it, when someone does crap like make their topic line "SAL-E ON V!AG_RA", they know damned right well that you DON'T want to get messages like that but they are trying to get through to you anyway. That is harrassment, plain and simple, and those people should be getting extraordinary fines and punishment for their actions. Do these people REALLY think that if they can just get their message through after all this that I am going to just break down and actually BUY their products?

Well shoot! I am glad I posted! Who knows how many emails got dumped in my bulk mail folder! Sorry guys, I wasn't ignoring you! Hopefully there is no one out there that didn't see this that thinks I am just rude. :awcrap:
