My review of my new cage clips

So I got my ball python in a small tank until I can secure another larger one or upgrade one for one of my other reptiles. I had currently been using an unused XBOX 360 and some other heavy things to keep the lid on.

Anyway, trying to make sure he couldn't get out I had gone out and gotten some cage clips, pictured below. He's in a ten-gallon momentarily (still a baby) so I got the SMALL clips which state they are for 50 gallon tanks or SMALLER.

I had to have spent 20 minutes in my warm reptile room trying to get those dang things on. I had to pry them with the feeding tongs and eventually got them on. They hold on VERY well.

However, getting them off is another story. The screen top I have is a heavy metal one and the clips managed to bend the mesh down, scratch the black finish and draw blood from me. I am VERY unhappy with this product and I want to make sure no one else has to go through this.

I would also like some home remedy ideas for cage clips. I don't feel comfortable with piling junk on top of the cage.

I must say I'm in love with the Critter Keepers that have the sliding, locking lids. They're a bit expensive, but toss a padlock on there and nothing's getting out. I see people getting rid of them for cheap on Craigslist a lot.

What have you got and aquarium with a screen top? What kind of edge do you have on the tank to attach to?

It's a juvenile ball python. There is the black frame molding around the top of the tank and a removable screen top. Sorry I can't post pics of it now. Camera batteries are dead, that's why I scanned the pic of the clips.

I found three on Craigslist that have the sliding lid that matches my other tanks (which I love). Two 40 gal. ($40 each) and a 20 gal. ($40 also). I might get both of the 40 gallon tanks and sell the other to my sister who has beardies.

Sliding lid IS the way to go.
