Bearded Dragon & antibiotics

We had our vet appointment with Tank today. The vet was not one I've had before (they lost the appointment with our usual herp vet) and was very young. I've seen her there a few times but never worked with her. She seemed to have her basics down.

She said the lump feels hard and could well be an abcess. She wants to try antibiotics first. She prescribed Baytril, 0.15 mL by mouth, 2x daily for 14 days.

Anyone know if this is a safe dosage? His weight was 239 grams.

There are several different dilutions of Baytril, so unless we know what type, we can't really make a good guesstimate. I know Marquis the adult Dumerils was on .1mL injections once per day for 14 days when he was having his RI issues... but it was probably a different dilution.

So I guess I'm just going to have to trust this vet that looks like she was just dropped off fresh from graduation?? :sidestep:

Are you sure it was twice daily? I am used to Baytril being dosed once per day or every other day in reptiles. (my snake was given injections every other day for an RI, but injectable Baytril can burn the skin)

If the dilution was 22.7mgs per ml then I would think your guy would get about .10ml per day. If I did my math right & MK's dosing chart is still accurate.

It's been a long time since I've had a lizard on Baytril PO but I am pretty sure it was once daily or maybe even EOD. His was compounded into a strawberry flavor, so I don't remember the amount or strength.

If you are unsure, it's OK to call back and ask about it.

I left a message on the voice mail for the doctor. They said give the first dose and she will call me back tomorrow morning.
