In the hub of the flood - Rhode Island

Cohabbing is cruelty...
It has been an exciting last few days. We made national news with the wonderful flooding that has been going on. The Warwick Mall is underwater, and there were some spectacular shots taken of that disaster. Our bike shop is on the same street as the Laurel Avenue bridge in Coventry that is threatening to collapse, along with the dam that is right there. Part of the Concordia mill that is right there had a part of a wall fall into the river....amazing and scary stuff.

At the shop we managed to escape with only 3-6 inches of water in the basement. Our home is on a hill and that escaped unscathed.

I am glad to hear that your home at least is safe and I hope your shop stays safe as well. May I ask you what kind of bike shop you have? Are you talking about bicycles or motorcycles?

Thank you so much! Everything turned out much better than we expected, especially since we are so close to that bridge. We have a bicycle shop.

The bridge and dam are still expected to fail, and the National Guard (as well as homeland security) is still milling around keeping people away. But since the water level is much lower there is not the danger posed that there was on Wednesday.

We get flooding by me when tropical storms come through, but luckily like you my house is above where the flooding occurs.

I asked what kind of shop because I LOVE to bicycle, so whenever someone says bike my ears kind of perk up. Me and the kids get all around our rural town on our bikes, I ride a Trek Classic Cruiser, I actually think biking is a family obsession, my brother in law rode a Brompton fold up all over Europe to celebrate graduating from high school, and my mother in law brings her Giant up with her every time she visits because she says she is to spoiled to ride the loaner bike that we keep around as a spare. Anyways it is always great to find out that you have stuff in common with people. I am excited to find another bike/corn snake person!

Beth, I had seen several pictures on the internet in the last couple of days, and I was definitely keeping you in my thoughts.

The pictures were terrible, by the way. Glad you personally had so little damage.

Glad to hear that almost everything is as good as can be for you. I was wondering about you and the Ghost Hunters people when Warwick made the news. Hope you get some FEMA money to replace/fix anything that needs it.

Thanks everyone :)
As far as I have seen so far, the FEMA aid is a joke. Low interest loans. I HATE taking out loans and in this case, I think we will be fine. The only thing we really lost besides a cool old card table was our furnace. It was old and on its way out anyway, and we can probably get by now til fall with no heat.

The mall that submerged...well...that is the place my mom used to take me for back-to-school shopping in the 70s. Alot of memories there!

Beth I've been thinking about you, I have seen some of the pictures. Be safe!!

I feel your pain Beth. Living right next to a river, we have been inundated with water 3 times in just a little over a month. The road I live on was finally opened today. They are also predicting more rain for Monday! :(

Thanks, Wade. Everything's cool now, but it was hard getting home Wednesday afternoon from the shop. So many roads were closed!

Onward to Easter! :)

I feel so lame, we haven't experienced any of the flooding that other parts are seeing. I'm in Woonsocket and we live on a pretty big hill I guess, so we're fine and dandy.

You feel lame because your house hasn't been destroyed? RI people are a little strange, me thinks.

Oh Wade, you have no idea!!
Ever notice how many reality tv stars come out of RI?
It's because so many of the people here are nutjobs.

LOL Wade, it's just that my relatives keep calling me, asking if I'm neck deep in water or something. I just feel bad because I haven't been affected by it and other people have, I guess lol.
