Waht Kind Of Hide Box?

Spitfire

Snakeless
I need some hide boxes but don't wanna pay too much for the crappy kinds at the pet store that are made of cheap material and are overpriced. I have some ideas, could someone tell me if they are acceptable. Ideas: carved styrafoam blocks, cracked flower pots, plastic lids with openings.

I'd avoid the styrofoam blocks as they are porous. Bits of droppings, etc., are likely to get into the pores and be a good breeding grouns for various pathogens.

Broken flower pots should be fine as long as you grind down sharp edges. Plastic lids are also good.

I tend to go for utility over aesthetics. Recycled butter tubs and other plastic containers that formerly contained food work for me. And cereal boxes for larger snakes.

I'd recommend staying away from porous materials and stick with things that can be washed and sterilized.

Butter tubs and garden pots work well.

If you're talking about hatchlings then go for the 'paper towel role cut in half lengthwise' trick and notch out a small cave like opening in the middle. Our Corns love those hides, they're free and you just toss them if they get poo'd on.

i have found that a forest has the best stuff... its free.

put bark, rocks etc in BOILING water to kill any bacteria first thou.
