Heating for a snake rack I'm going to build

Scrufdog

that one guy
I plan on making a front open display shelving rack for my corns and ball python. I'll be using that finished white shelving wood from home depot or lowes. I need to figure out how to heat each individual tank. Do you think an undertank heater would do well to heat through a 1/2 inch piece of wood, or should I consider something else?

You could some of those Radiant Heat Panels, that is the only other option I can think of. I've never heated a custom wood cage though, and I've never used RHP's before either.
