Snake-nic

I was thinking about something. Us guinea pig people have what's called pig-nics, or guinea pig picnics where we gather at a chosen spot and bring along our pigs. It's usually a park and there's usually food. We talk, trade stories, laugh, and what-have-you.

I was thinking about maybe doing something like this with snakes. Many in the Denver area have expressed an interest in meeting up. Of course, it wouldn't be for a long while because plans would have to be made. Has anyone else had or considered doing a Snake-nic?

If figured the best way to go about it would be:

*A park with covered areas out of the sun to set up snakes OR approved indoor meet place
*Potluck, catering, OR a BBQ
*Possibly trading/selling of supplies or animals
*Possibly a raffle
*Free admission

Now, this is just a spur of the moment idea that isn't properly thought out. I wanted opinions on this. I might consider setting one up for the Denver Metro area for maybe July or September, October. It all depends on money and weather.

Would anyone be interested in a snake-nic if one was going on in your area? What would you want to experience at a get-together with other corn snake owners?

I think it's a marvelous idea! I only get to socialize with other snake people once a year, at our local expo. To be honest, I'm so busy setting up, tearing down or showing that a rarely get an opportunity to actually 'talk snake'. It's why I enjoy my forums so much.

Love the idea, not in your area, but love it!

I'm also going to vouch for this being a cool idea. There is a reptile expo every couple of months near Toronto, but obviously you can't bring in your own snakes unless you're a vendor and it's too busy in there to really socialize. It would be nice to make friends with other snake people and have a chance to show off some of your own collection in person.

If you do go ahead with organizing it and have some success I might try taking your lead and setting up a snake-nic in my area.

I'll have to start planning it out. Any ideas for activities?

bobbing for pinkies? Laying on a warm rock? Digging yourself under a bunch of aspen and staying still? :roflmao:

I think this is a great Idea, and if you dont mind, i'm going to suggest it on my local forum. It would be really cool to hang out with other reptile people on a more regular basis, and hte local herp society really does nothing for social functions...although they had a dance last year to raise money...but still.
Jokes aside, I think this is a great idea.

Lol. I actually kinda like those suggestions. Lol. Due to other events in my life (See "Somebody Up There Hates Me" thread for more details), I haven't been able to think much more on this.

At the Rocky Mountain Expo, they have a raffle. What if we had a big pile of aspen with containers labeled with numbers (for snake safety). Each person gets a chance to find a container and after everyone plays, they bring their numbered container up to receive the snake with the same number. It would have to be a timed event though. And I guess in theory, you could grab as many containers as you could find. It would have to be a pretty big and deep pile. All snakes would be donated from breeders and all money would go to a reptile rescue or something. I don't know, just kinda made this one up as I typed.
