Went out on a tortoise survey with a friend and a few of his friends today on land that is proposed for a solar power plant... Well we found no signs of tortoises... But we did see a few little things here and there.. It was a fun hot day ;)

Nice pics and captions, Steph.

IMHO you have a nearly perfect job. I'd love to fit fewer people (by a long shot) and more wilderness surveys, into my work day.

I love the horned lizard, too. Too bad they can't just crickets or supers or something!

I have heard of some people feeding them nothing but crickets... I have no idea how long they can live on only crickets. Don't they eat ants?

Yes they eat ants.. And it would be great if they only ate crickets.. From what I have heard they are hard to keep in captivity..

Eric, unfortunately the surveys at this point are volunteer only... But I hope oneday that I will get paid for it... It is very rewarding though :)

Thanks guys... :)

...I'm so impressed you had a bee on your hand. Does that sound silly? I am nervous around bees, so I'm impressed when someone is so obviously not! When I was 12, a friend had a nest in the railing of her front steps...and I ended up stung 17 times when someone threw a ball and it knocked the (rather rotten) woodent post over.
That being said, I love honey. So I like bees...but not near me.
Your pics are all lovely...that lizard is a cutie!

Thank you :) I dont mind bees... Will even let the honey bees on me.. I have picked them up many times saving them frown drowning and etc.. They have never stung me... Being stung 17 times is crazy and horrific for a kid.. I got stung twice once when sliding down a slide when I was a kid... They really arent very aggresive, just protective.. I dont know about killer bees though...
That little guy on my hand kept buzzing all around me looking at me before he finally landed on my hand..

She must have been SURE you were a flower. Sure enough she tried to drink your nectar! lol
