help, help, help, help!!!!

I am feeding to day. I heat my water pretty hot b/c my snakes are in the basement and I dont want to run back and forth to re-heat water.

I opened one of the hatchling and comes right out of the delicup and striaght into the almost boiling water. I stick my hand in there,(slighly burned it) and pulled it out. She is not doing good, I put a paper towel with her and put her in the cup. she is so sad looking! please, and help!

Try not to feel too badly, as long as you learn from the mistake. I have made what seem like incredibly stupid mistakes (in retrospect - not at the time) over the years. I just try not to repeat them.

When I use really hot water, I usually put it in a pitcher or very large plastic glass. Then I pour small amounts into a 4 oz condiment cup. That way I can heat up just a few pinks at a time, and the larger container stays warm longer. The water in the small cup doesn't stay hot for long, and then I dump it out and add more.

If a snake happened to jump into the small bowl, it wouldn't completely fit in, and chances are that the water would already be cooling off by the time I started to remove pinks from it to start feeding. The bigger pitcher is further away, where the snake wouldn't get to it. Maybe that method would help in the future?

Sorry for your loss and as Kathy said, we must learn from our mistakes so we don't do it again....don't fret - it happens. At least you are trying to care for your animals rather than neglect them ;)
