Moving up in mice size - is this normal?

Hello, Just wanted to find out if this is somewhat normal or not. Kit Kat our Okeetee went from pinkies to double pinkies and just recently to fuzzies. The first time he took a fuzzy with no problem, it took him a little longer and of course he was hesitant at first but go it down and digested. I went to give him a fuzzy for the 2nd time tonight and he didn't go for it at all. So I went ahead and gave him the double pinks again and they were gone in no time. So is this normal? Should I just continue to give him double or triple pinks for a while or keep trying the fuzzies?

Thanks
Becky

It _is_ kind of normal. Do you know how much he weighs? It seems like some babies just don't like to make the switch to mice with fur. All you can do is keep trying. It won't hurt anything to do a couple meals of double pinks, and then try a fuzzy again. Can you find some nice peach fuzzies that have hardly any hair?

You could try leaving the fuzzy in the feeding container over night.
I would not try triple pinks for long if you do it at all.Pinks don't have much nutritional value.

Pinks have nearly the same gross energy as adult mice.

Mouse, domestic Neonatal, <3 g
Dry Matter%: 19.1
Crude protein%: 64.2
Crude Fat%: 17.0
Ash%: 9.7
Gross energy: 4.87 kCal/g

Mouse, domestic Juvenile, 3-10 g
Dry Matter%: 18.2
Crude protein%: 44.2
Crude Fat%: 30.1
Ash%: 8.5
Gross energy: 6.65kCal/g

Mouse, domestic Adult or >10 g
Dry Matter%: 32.7
Crude protein%: 55.8
Crude Fat%: 23.6
Ash%: 11.8
Gross energy: 5.25 kCal/g

You could try slitting the fuzzies. The smell of blood gets my snakes in a feeding mood.

Joe, if you look on the Rodent Pro site, there is a lot of information about nutritional content of various prey items, if you ever need a reference.

Okay thank you I had always thought pinks weren't as good per gram as adults.

I have read that pinkies lack the calcium of adult mice, and that is the concern with staying on pinkies for too long.
Is there any truth to that?
