hello, i am writing to you folks as a new corn owner. my little female has a bit of a mite issue. lemme give you some background. we got her from petco about a month ago and didnt realize that aspen shavings can carry snake mites. well she got them last night at around 9 i took her out and noticed a black bump under her jawbone. typical area for mites i guess. well i saw another one and squashed the little perpetraitor. but just now found another crawling on her, we did quarantine her so i think the one that was on her fell off and i killed it. but right now she is out of her home and i need some steps to cleaning the cage and her.

we got this jurassi mite spray for her and the cage. anyone have any oppinions on this stuff.

also is a rinse with 50/50 bleach water s good idea for the cage . and do i need to rinse thorougly before putting her back in the cage. I would do this for everything in the cage as well.

Wash everything and use newspaper as a substrate until you get the mites under control. I've never used Jurrasi Mite. Persistence is the key; getting them under control now is your best bet.

Here's a link to a mite remedy that has worked well for me (and others here as well). Look through the entire thread - later in the thread he states that he has reduced the concentration to 1 ounce per gallon water.

I've had mites a couple of times, and this really works well.

Also it's a good idea to get some Provent-a-Mite to treat the substrate. You can do a search and buy it on-line. The stuff that Petco and PetSmart sells doesn't work that well, from what I've heard.

If you can import Callingtons (http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/compare-medications-a-treatments/Callington-Mite-Spray/reviews/), do it.... It is the best and safest way to guarantee success...
If not get P-A-M. Provent-A Mite... (http://www.pro-products.com/).. but follow the instructions to the letter...
I will guarantee both of these products work and are the easiest ways to make sure you have nailed them.... Any other way is hit and miss and thats why people say they are hard to eliminate.......

I have used this with my ball python and has been a full success. Ill pull up a great youtube video as well for you:

This goes through step by step how to give a full cleaning. You have to be very vigorous. As described in the video, he also sprays down his other snakes with a diluted spray. It is likely that your other snakes may also be infected unless your quarantine practices were PERFECT.

Good luck
