Tattoos?

So, does anyone have any snake tattoos? And if so are there stories behind them? I know that's a rather juvenile thing to ask but I am genuinely interested :)

I wouldn't get one myself as I think to do it justice it'd have to be pretty large, and I'm far too big a wimp to spend more than ten minutes "in the chair".

Look forward to any responses/pictures.

:)

In the recent issue of Reptiles, there was reptile tatoo contest. There was some really awesome and crazy stuff!

Here's my only reptile tatoo, it's on my lower calf. I have two others. One's a wolf in a moon and the other is a panther head.

Anyone recognize the inspiration for this tat?

Don't have any snake tats yet working on having one drawn up.
but I do have these two: My best friend on top my 14 year old boston terrier (on my chest) and the tiger is on my right shoulder.

It looks alot like the pose of a ghost in The Corn Snake Manual...

How special! Great tiger too, rarrr. It's not fair, I'd love to have a tattoo of a (my) snake but I just couldn't brave one that big :( and a little one would look daft methinks.

I'll try and con my friend into letting me take a picture of his boa tattoo, it coils round his arm/shoulder and onto his chest and back as well. It's so detailed, very special indeed.

Exactly the same thing I was going to say, except the pose is the mirror image of what's in the manual.

When I was a kid I used to think that I wanted to get tattoos when I was older, but I've since changed my thoughts on this. My thought: We came into the world without tattoos, makeup, piercings, etc. so that's the way we should live our lives...naturally. Of course this is just my point of view. I don't judge others who have tattoos, piercings, etc., I just will never have them.

Same here. I have a single piercing in my ears, but I'll never have a tatoo. Seen too many ancient people in the hospital I work in with tatoos around their ankles that used to be on their shoulder :) Not pretty!!

The trick is not to get one somewhere that will sag ;)

I'll admit I got mine when I was young(er) and stupid(er) but I was wise enough to think about it for a while first and design them myself. I've only even had good reactions (I know some people think tattoos are just nasty) but I suppose only time will tell whether I regret them in the end.

Scuse tangent :)

I laughed at the fact that some of you know the "picture of the ghost corn" in the manual. I don't know the book that well, so I looked it up and voila, there's the tattoo.

Anyways, no tattoos for me. On that matter, no piercings at all (none in my ears, never have been, never will be), and I never wear make-up except for fancier occasions. I don't feel like I should put myself through any pain for something permanent/semi-permanent.

Amanda E was the most accurate in her answer, except for page number she did include the 'mirror image' part. I was planning on a corn tattoo for some time, and after looking at many, many corn images, that pic just jumped right off the page . . . I guess onto my leg!

Here's the wolf that's on my back. Anyone else have snake tattoo's, or any tattoo's? I know Marcel does, anyone else?

On my back I have a Haida Raven. I designed the tattoo myself. Just like all the other ones I have

Here is my right arm. A dragon and a tribal:

I shall just have to look out for the tats to recognise you in future, Paul. lol...... if you see some dizzy blonde walking around Norwich looking at tattoos - it's me!

not a snake but a celtic warrior horse! Not a good pic cause I took it myself with a camera phone...but you get the gist. I also have the wu tang symbol on my ankle :D

nb: the horses head looks very distorted in this pic...it's not in real life! Probably just because I was twisting round to take the pic or something

Here is mine. I wanted a snake tatt for some time but I didn't want any one type of snake since I like so many of them. I found this one on the wall of flash but originally it was a venomous snake with a skull. I told my artist what changes I wanted made (added note that the daisy is my favorite flower) and in about 45 minutes it was done. I placed this one on my right ankle. I also have a black tribal piece with a blue rose on the back of my left shoulder.

Milleniumtat2,

The colors are very vibrant! Being ignorant of the tattoo industry, will the color and sharpness of a modern tattoo such as yours stay that way, or will the colors fade and blur with time like the old ones do?

J_Daniels, that first one on your arm/shoulder/chest is AMAZING! So much shadow work . . . how long did it take?

06-11-2004, 07:32 PM
I guess it took about 4 hours... may I recommend that you never get a tattoo that a)is verrrry close to your nipple and b)cuts into your armpit.... not pleasant, not pleasant at all...

Tracee
06-11-2004, 07:48 PM
Ow ow OW I wouldn't let my tattooist near my nipple in a million years. There are some fabulous tattoos appearing in this thread, keep em coming :)

I fogot to mention that I do know a little about tattoos. A friend of mine is from Samoa and he has a traditional Samoan tattoo that starts at his waist and ends at his knees and they leave no parts untouched! It's a male right of passage thing. They even tattoo'd inside his butt crack. They use traditional tottoo'ing equipment which is not electric and the whole process took close to two weeks even though he had work done daily. At the end of each day he had to go sit in the ocean. Ouch!

Iris

ouch!
After seeing all the pics, I've concluded that you must all have very high pain thresholds.
IF I ever get one, it will be something very small, and not on my lower back. No idea what I would get though...a corn would be cute.

Tracee
06-14-2004, 02:57 PM
Iris,

As a rule, the more meat there is, the less it hurts :) so the small of your back is notoriously painful - I can serpently vouch for that but I don't have a very high physical pain threshold at all.

The one I got on my upper arm for example, didn't hurt nearly as much as the one on my back. But it bled like hell. Why do we put ourselves through this I wonder?!

Don't mean to creep in on all your conversations. I don't have any tattoos myself, but I just saw in the July 2004 issue of Reptiles Magazine some great pics of their reptile tattoo contest. If you can find a copy, enjoy! I picked mine up at a Petsmart.
