Lump developed on My snake

I have had My girl for over 9 years now and about 6 months ago She started getting a lump by or at Her belly. It has grown a lot where it looks like She has eaten a rat. It does not seem to hurt Her. She is eating , shedding and drinking fine , but it is worrying Me. I took Her to a vet and She couldn't help Me at all.. Only said if She doesn't seem like She is in pain don't worry about it.. Well I am worried. She is My baby and part of My family.. Does anyone know what it could be? I want to thank anyone who could help Me out..

No regurges? No weight loss?

The most likely options are either crypto, a tumor, or an abscess. If you can, find another veterinarian that specialises in reptiles.

I agree that you need to go elsewhere and find expert help. It doesn't sound like the vet was very experienced - they wouldn't have left a cat or dog in that state. If they didn't know what it was, then they should have run more checks/tests to find out.

So sorry you're having to go through this. It's terribly worrying.

No weight lose at all. Now Her poo seems different like all liquid and nothing at all formed.. Yes I do agree if She would have been a cat or dog the vet would have done more , but being a snake She didn't seem to care.. Problem is the nearest Reptile vet to Me is about 170 miles each way..

May she have an impaction? Where do you feed her?

Yeah, could be something ingested (i.e. wood chips) that won't digest.

I had one like that where I massaged the lump a little and luckily it went away.

I feed her in Her cage. She does not seem to be in any pain at all.. It's like all soft like fluid or fatty tissue

I would bet that is not crypto. I would find a reptile vet for a second opinion.

Definitely get to another vet, they should at least want to biopsy it or something. I have a friend who's had to have surgery on her pet rat for fatty lumps, no vet should dismiss any animal.

sorry about your troubles I would go to another vet sounds like he didn't wanna be bothered or just doesn't know snakes. I had an ultra with a lump on her jaw turned out to be trauma because she would climb on the rim of her tank near the screen lid and eventually fall. She at some point must have impacted something. The vet I took her to gave me a hard time about checking her out the way I thought she should have been, at least till I mentioned I'd be back and very unpleasant if I would loose her because he was Lazy. I got the exam that I was paying for and then some. As a Combat Marine Vet I have no tolerance for people who don't do there job and or do it half A**ed. My ultra healed up in about 2 weeks and I now cut that little lip off tanks so they can get up there.

I hope all goes well your your Baby

Poor lass - no wonder you're concerned. Good luck finding a vet who cares - there *are* good ones out there.

If it helps, tumours tend to feel harder and not move much when felt. If the lump soft and squishy this makes cancer a less likely outcome. Corns can develop fat lumps which feel soft and squisy and they can be very pronounced. However this isn't usually the place on the body where they occur.

Sending good wishes your way.

I guess since she is eating, there is nothing stuck in her stomach... I would not expect her to eat if there was.. but at the other hand, I have never seen a lump like this before either. Can't be comfortbale to say the least. Weird how there are 4 bulges..maybe something is wrong with her belly muscles? Sorry can't help speculating but really, it could be anything. Hopefully you'll find a vet who at least examines her. It's not like a snake totally doesn't 'work' like other animals.... some basic stuff should be covered by any vet.

Yeah all She did was squeeze Her lump for about 2 mins saying, well She doesn't seem like she is in pain. As long as She is acting normal don't worry. I was like OMG . You could tell She didn't like pinkie at all.. But a puppy She was so sweet.. Makes Me so mad some ppl act like just because they are snakes they can't be loved and show love. My Pinkie loves curling up on My lap and lay there while We watch tv or I get a blanket and cover all but her head and She will stay there forever. LOL

I don't know how anyone could not be willing to bend over backwards to help an animal they cant help themselves. I don't recall any animals completing or even attending med school. It's obvious something is wrong from your picture. IMO if I'm a vet who is supposed to care about animals in order to properly care for them, red flags are popping up all over the place. I see something not normal like that, I'm doing all I can to figure out the problem for my client, but more important for the well being of the animal. To bad its illegal to choke people or I'd offer my services free of charge. If you don't mind I want to show that picture to my vet, maybe he can recommend someone in your town who doesn't mind rolling up the sleeves and getting the hands dirty to help. Again I hope all works out for you and your baby I know its tuff to deal with pets become family.

Oh Thank You so much. I live in Lone grove Oklahoma. She didn't care about Her for sure, But She sure still charged Me for the visit.. I as well get so mad about ppl like Her. It's a shame but there are People out there who are mean and cruel to animals they are scared of or just don't understand them.

Okay, yeah if you can at least consult a good vet, they can tell you what should be done. If I didn't have any choice I would go back to your vet and spell it all out for them, tell them exactly what procedure you want done and what you expect from them. I have a pretty good reptile vet that you could probably call, let me know if you're interested and I'll give you the number.

"...all She did was squeeze Her lump for about 2 mins saying, well She doesn't seem like she is in pain"

And they charged you for this service? I'd demand my money back, that's ridiculous, they're supposed to be doctors. If they have no idea what they're doing they need to refer you to a specialist.

Naias I sent that pic to my vet. he said it could be as simple as trauma or something worse but without an exam he wouldn't want to speculate any further he said he will email me a good vet in Oklahoma for snakes after he consults the registry for that state. the second he sends me the Info I'll forward that to you.

I know what you mean, luckily my vet keeps boas and tortoises as well, she absolutely loves my Dumerils, I've never had to take a corn snake in but she used to breed those as well. She stopped because all of the inbreeding and deformed babies being created for pretty colors. When we couldn't get my Dumerils boa cured of his RI she got on the phone with a specialist while we were there lol. She even did some research on the species after our first visit because she wasn't very familiar with that particular snake. I was going to give you the number but it seems like others helped you more, your sweet little snake will finally get the care she needs.

Knowing you gave her the best care and love rite to the end should make you happy I'm sure she was. I hope you will not give up on snakes. It's tuff to get another one with her loss still fresh in your heart. She can never be replaced but she can be remembered through the love and care you give to another. I wish you the best.
