Tail tip issue

My little guy has an odd looking tail tip. Noticed it after we brought him home in April. I thought that maybe it was damage caused by a retained shed (he was bought from a pet store) and that it would either fix itself in a couple of sheds or fall off eventually. But now it seems that the tip is healthy (other than looking odd) and the only issue comes in when he sheds as it gets stuck on the very tip. It doesn't seem to be sensitive.

I guess it's nothing to worry about, I'd just like to know what caused it and if it will heal/fall off/be there forever :p

Pic below (was difficult keeping him still long enough haha):

Looks like you might be right about retained shed in the past, but it's just disfigured from it, rather than totally dying and falling off.

Since you've seen him shed the tip off since then, I'd say it's probably fine at this point, but just continue keeping an eye on it after shed to make sure the rest comes off.

Mine has a similar shaped tail, I always double check his sheds to make sure the tip is with it.
