Hi guys. I got back from work today to find my cornsnake stuck. He is stuck in the window of this:

Its made of metal and doesnt come apart.

I've tried putting him in a shallow bath and coating the area in olive oil but I cant get him out. His scales are coming off too. I've no idea what to do. The only thing I can think of is to try a hacksaw but I think its to tight.

I tried ringing the local emergency vet and they couldnt suggest anything other than what I've already done.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Poor thing. :( I would have tried olive oil, too.

Oh that is terrible. Me and the snake would be at the fire department. Ours used to be very handy for stuff like that. Let us know. Hoping for good outcome.

Can you cut through it with some sort of bolt cutter? Maybe get another person and a hacksaw? Maybe a triangle file??

Good idea to try the fire department.

Can you slather him with oil and make him back up??

Hi guys I've spoken to two verts, one recommended ice but it didn't help. In the end I had to take a hacksaw to it, after a while I was able to break it off with a pair of pliers. He is free. His body looks really sore though. Any ideas what to do here.

Maybe some tin snip? They're made for cutting thin not-too-hard metal... I wouldn't think that toy would be made of steel, should be able to cut a little at a time until you're all the way through. You'd probably have to cut two different spots though, and those spots would be sharp.

Or just dip that part of his body in a bowl of (some kind of cooking) oil and try to encourage him to keep moving. They can flatten and squeeze themselves pretty well.

Good luck, I feel bad for him

I would soak once or twice a day in weak tea strength betadine. Put him on paper towels, not aspen. Triple antibiotic ointment. Ask the vet if he needs an antibiotic shot.

I think most of the threads I have read dealing with injuries mentions using Neosporin (withOUT the pain killer) on cuts and raw spots..

I wouldn't be surprised if you see him go blue real soon. Our snake damaged a few scales about a month or so ago and he went blue and shed real quick. It was around three weeks after his previous shed so we weren't expecting it but once he shed the bits sticking up were gone.

Id bath her in walm water everyday and put 4 capfulls of videne in it videne is a povidone - iodine solution its an antiseptic it works wonders on snakes iv used it on a burmese python slwith scale rot cleaned ut up in no time and a cornsnake with a burn on its belly works wonders but make shore your corn dont swallow any as its recomended to keep there head out of the water as it could have ill efects if swallowed hope this helps wish him a speedy recovery

the biggest mistake i ever made with my snake was one time i had a fishtank cave in his tank and failed to notice a small hole in the bottom of it. well my snake crawled in that hole and i thought he had escaped, it was a few weeks before i ever found him.he was fine but his scales were dried out in places and he sheded a few more times often than normal, the new scales came in an even nicer color than before

I totally thought this was a troll post when I first read it and saw the pic of the van, but then I saw the snake IN the van!

I am so sorry this happened, but SO glad he is free! Guess that is the end of the Scooby-Doo theme?

I would ground him until he is 16 and can get his driver's license!

(sorry, couldn't resist myself!!!)

Does anyone know why they say not to use one with pain-killer? Just curious!
