I have wanted an albino boa for a while now. I wasn't going to get one anytime soon but I came across this little guy. The breeder had a litter of boas and a couple of the albinos/sunglows had 1 eye that was either missing of bulging. The advice was given to cull the whole litter due to the genetic defect. I piped in saying I could take one of the babies as a pet only. He agreed and sent my pictures. The females were albinos and the males were sunglows. I was over the moon that the sunglow was a male! I said I would take him.

It was my first time having a snake shipped but it went smoothly. I picked up the package from Fedex during my lunch break and brought him home. When I opened the bag there was blood. Not a ton of it but he was bloody. I took him out and looked him over. His bad eye had burst during shipping.

I put him away and called the reptile vet to see what I should do. They wanted to see him right away. I had to explain to my boss that I needed to take my snake to the vet so I could leave early. Luckily she was fine with it.

I took him in and he was so good while the vet poked at his eye and looked in his mouth. He then gave my some ointment to put on the eye to keep it from getting infected. I put him in a sterile tub with paper towels and let him settle in. He had had such a rough day!!

Anyway he's doing good so far and I'm so in love with him. He's so easy going. I made sure to get pictures of his good side :)

Aaaaaah... too much awesome. Too many albino boa owners on here now, making me green with envy. Very cute guy. Glad to hear his eye is doing good. Keep us updated with pics as he grows!

"eye had burst" - reading that made me cringe. But I'm glad he's in a good home who got him to the vet so quickly. Did the vet say if the eye is permanently damaged or if it will heal? Although, since it was the bad eye anyway, maybe it doesn't matter?

He is beautiful.

You have joined the boa club! Fun! I absolutely love having a little boa and also can't wait until he gets bigger like my older one.

I'm glad he'll get a good home with you.

Thanks all :)

The vet said they eye is pretty much useless at this point but it will scar over and heal up. It's already looking so much better. Just dull and cloudy.

This is Cy's eye today. It's looking a little crusty but doesn't seem to bother him.

 First off, kudos to you for saving the little guy's life, and for putting his wellbeing first by taking it to the vet, which too many people wouldn't have done. It's so nice to see people (you and Spyderk, just recently, that I know of) taking in and caring for animals that would have otherwise been killed due to their lack of breeding value. There are enough breeders out there; this hobby needs more people like you.

Secondly, welcome to the wonderful, amazing world of boas!! Keep us updated and inundated with pics!

I plan on it when I have a bigger place. Right now Isis is more than enough.

With Cy needing daily ointment applications, I have had him out every day since I got him. He's still doing great. He's so chill yet curious. Yesterday he took a fuzzy mouse with a lot of enthusiasm! Next time I need to use tongs to avoid being tagged.

He loves being up high in his enclosure. This weekend I'm going to go out and see if I can find a few things for him to climb on.

Looking good! Yes, curious about the eye also. I need to get mine out for pics while it's nice enough here in WI.

According to your signature, he is the same weight as my little Watson. Ole is behind at 103 grams because he had a regurge.

Not great. It's just not healing up like it should. He's been crabby over the past week as well. I think I'm going to need to take him to the vet again.

Well Cy went to the vet yesterday. The good news is as of right now, Cy doesn't need surgery to remove his eye (yay!). The vet thinks as long as I keep it clean, it will eventually scar over. He suggested flushing it with saline to keep it from getting crusty, and using topical whenever he rubs his eye cap off (which is frequently).

He also said otherwise he's in great health. He's doubled in weight since I brought him in last time. The vet also checked his mouth and respiration and said he looks great. Cy does have a head tilt, but the vet thinks it's because of not being able to see out of his right eye. Cy will tilt his head to get a better look at you with his good eye.

The vet warned me about IBD, he said I should be aware of it and Cy does have his head tilt. But he also said that he's seen snakes with IBD live long lives without problems. He didn't feel a need to test Cy since I have no other boas or pythons.

Some updates on Cy. His eye is looking so much better. He shed a week ago and is growing so fast! He's just gorgeous

Thank you so much!

He has been an absolute joy. He's so easy going and curious. He does get really cranky around shed time but otherwise he's so sweet.

He's very pretty. Without the eye problem he would be too perfect. Kinda like Brad Pitt. lol The eye grounds him.

Imagine how connected he will be with you from raising him through it. They are timid enough, without having a vision problem. Kudos for taking him in.
