hey, ive had my snake (Ferris) for about 5 years now. Hes always been very healthy and sweetly tempered. Recently ive been noticing some of his skin has a dry or flaky appearance to it?

and there have been a few scales ive seen that look like this

there arent many like that (maybe 2 or 3 that ive seen), but it still concerns me.

i just hoped that it would be fine when during his next shed, but now im worried about his shedding? hes always turned a blueish color during shedding, but now his belly has turned a pinkish color??

ive read that some peoples cornsnakes turn pink rather than bluish grey when they shed, but it seems strange to me since mines always turned blue (and has some mild but unexplained skin problems). Also his eyes havent turned foggy. im going to give it a few days, and in the best case scenario im just being an overbearing mother and he will shed just fine. but for now i figured i would ask you guys for any knowledge you have about this, since if there is a problem id like to catch it as early on as possible.

i really appreciate it!

It really sounds like he is in blue. Don't feed him until he sheds.

There are a couple of great books actually written by two of our members here, Kathy Love and Don Sodenberg. I would look them up and buy them, they are priceless for the well being of your corn.

Most snakes bellies turn pink before a shed. I WOULDN'T just stop feeding as the commenter above me said. Both my corn and ball always eat when I'm shedding. Prestage and shed stage. Offer the meal and if he/she takes it then so be it. Never just stop feeding please! Im very experienced. Grew up around snakes. [emoji173]️[emoji216]

I prefer not to feed at any point during the whole shed process. In the wild, they would not be out hunting during blue, so I like to stick as closely to nature as possible. The risk of either refusal (and therefore a wasted mouse) or a regurge if they don't refuse is just a risk I'm not willing to take. Plus, skipping one or even two meals during shed will absolutely not harm a healthy adult corn snake. I completely agree with smigon's post.

You could make him a moist hide. That can help his shed come off all in one spot, and snakes seem to prefer them. You can use a Tupperware container (although it will probably have to be a big one for him!) and damp Sphagnum Moss. Put it on the warm side of the viv.
