Scale and behavior changes

When my mom went to feed our almost 8 year old male corn today, she noticed that the scales over his entire body have darkened. He is of charcoal/ghost colouring, and the pattern hasn't changed, but he looks much more brown and dull than usual. He is also being more anti-social than usual, and he shys away from my mother's touch. He is acting skittish. He's still feeding - he ate one of the two mice she gave him, which isn't that unusual for him. Is he ready to shed? His eyes haven't clouded over yet (they always do), and his scales do not darken like this before shedding. Is this something to worry about, or are we over-reacting? We've just never seen him darken before a shed. He has no health problems that we know of.

Thanks for the help!

My dark anery has a phase of her shed, after she's blue, when she clears up but looks really dark. I bet it's that.
