Need Help!!!

So I got a call this afternoon from a shelter nearby that was quite interesting!! The woman said; "your the only person I know that loves corn snakes and we have a woman here that just brought one in and we can't keep it here" so naturally I said I would be right down! When I got there I saw a hard looking woman who was so messed up I don't even know how she was standing with a gorgeous corn in a tiny little critter cage thing! She said that the snake had been missing in their house for OVER A MONTH and showed back up that night but she couldn't keep it! So needless to say I took him/her home and only have a 10 gallon tank that's empty so that's what she's in right now! I tried feeding her but she wanted nothing to do with it so I figure I'll give it a few days and try again! So here are some pics of my new baby I need help with a name and maybe someone out there can tell me if I'm right about it being a HER!!

This last one is for anyone out there that may be able to tell if I'm right about it being a her?

Well that was a surprise LOL. I was expecting to see a normal corn as usual with most rescues here but instead it's a Tessera !! NICE rescue!
As always with any snake in a new home, let the snake chill for a few days and settle in before trying to feed it. He/she looks healthy enough so don't worry if he/she doesn't eat for a week or two. The 10 gal is fine also as long as the temps are right.
As for whether if it's a boy or a girl I would say YES Haha. Really though that is the most accurate guess you'll get based on a pic ;)
I'm simplistic with names so Tessie works :D

Yeah the only reason I tried to feed her was because she's been loose in from what I heard a pretty gross house so I'm doubting she's had anything to eat for at least a month!! She was sooooo cold when I picked her up I was amazed she was even alive!! So she's a Tessera huh wow! Thank you I think I will get her a 20 gallon tomorrow because she can't stretch out in the 10! I hate to move her again but she looks pretty cramped!!

Don't worry about not feeding her. Her body condition looks fabulous. And yes, 'she' is definitely a tessera. I'm pretty jealous/astounded, actually. :P

Get her set up in the 20 gallon, then give her a week to settle in. No handling, no offering food, nothing but changing the water every couple days. Throw in all sorts of boxes and paper towel tubes to make her feel secure. Then offer food after the week. She'll probably eat then, when she's warm and settled in.

Do you think it will be to stressful to move her to the 20 right now? I don't want to upset her more than I have to

No. Move her now and like we said let her chill for a few days. She didn't look cramped in the pics but bigger is always better. Well almost always. It's more important to get the ambient temps and the heat gradient right for now. Get the 20 up to temps before moving.
Yeah I'm still flabbergasted ! A TESSERA !! LOL As I started to scroll down your post and saw the head I'm like "yup another norm" but as the body came into view I was like "REALLY ? WOW..........

Looks in far better condition than one would expect from a snake that was supposedly missing for a month, and belonging to a person who can't keep it anyway. Based on that, and your description of the person surrendering it, I am suspicious of her story. Maybe she stole it recently, and found she couldn't get any money for it.

Anyway, doesn't matter.
The snake is in better hands now.

She's a beauty. Best wishes with her. Don't worry about where she came from at this point. There is no evidence one way or another. Just concentrate on caring for her and giving her the home she deserves.

For name ideas I have been on a theme kick as of late. For the two corns I picked up last August I named them Magenta and Riff Raff. I am a huge Rocky Horror Picture Show fan.
My son is an Archer fan and named his ball python Sterling Mallory Archer.

So I wanted to ask if she is acting hungry and ready to eat should I try or wait?

Bella's Mom

There's no wrong answer. If she doesn't eat then you wasted a mouse. If she does great! BUT she will not starve to death in the next day or two so I would still wait another few days just in case acting hungry is just exploring her new environment and is warmed up.

Ok that seems reasonable enough to me!! I just by nature find it hard to not feed her when in my mind I've been told she's gone without for a month yah know!! I want to make sure it doesn't end up being too much for her so I will wait a couple days thank you Daddio207

She is amazingly calm and loving too!! For being so young she just kinda hangs out the couple times I've handled her, she didn't try to get away at all!!

so my new baby girl came out and snuggled for a little bit today and I noticed that she smells like mold really bad!! It must be from wherever she was "hiding" at her previous owners or something!! Any suggestions on what I should do about this?

Yeah, I know! And I actually do know someone who lost a tessera, back in the day when the value was still in the $800 range for a normal.

Since you have been handling her during the settling in period:D you can give her a bath. Luke warm water checked with a thermometer around 88 degrees just deep enough for her to swim in but hold her head above water. Put her in just for a minute or two. Paper towel dry after.
There's a possibility that the smell is musk that has dried on her.

Nice rescue!!! Definitely tessera, looks just like my girl. Great setup you have too. Gentle bath would be good if you are concerned. She might be less musty with next shed. Maybe the house she was in was so bad there were mice breeding and pinkys, haha! With my little Tess, she is still small so I leave a pinky in there at bedtime and she eats during the night.
I am glad the owner did the right thing and brought her in. That deserves some credit, lots of people would have just tossed her outside.
