Issues with snakes tail

two days ago, our corn snake was fine. He's my daughters pet, and she had him out handling him. She was gone yesterday, but today when she got home, she got the snake out and we immediately noticed his tail. It's changing colors and has completely gone limp. We have absolutely no idea what happened, as two days ago, he was fine.

There are no vets around where we live that treat snakes. Can anyone explain what is happening, and what we possibly need to do?

This view also shows how it's swollen above the area where his his tail started having issues.

I'm not an expert, and I've never dealt with this myself, but I've seen other threads that start this way. I'm not an expert, but this snake needs to see a vet, and the sooner the better. I know I saw a thread where the snake looked exactly like this, but it was on another forum and I can't remember which one or what I even searched to find it. If I can find it again, I'll PM it to you. That snake survived, but had it's tail amputated.

I found the thread, and sent you the link to it. That snake did not survive. My apologies. I'm praying your snake has something entirely different, and far less serious going on here, but at least you can compare the pictures.

OUCH!

Wish I even KNEW what to say except that it looks like an infection of some sort. I agree with albertagirl in that emergency veterinary care is definitely indicated, unless someone else knows by looking at pictures what could be wrong.

My thoughts & prayers are with you and your little sneaky one!

Your precious snake will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that some medical care from the vet and your loving care will lead to a speedy and full recovery.

P.S. I literally found this listing in the yellow pages but it says reptiles in the ad and they are local to you. You might give a call since they do say emergency services. You have an emergency. If they can't take you they may be able to tell you where you can take your snake for care.

Call an emergency vet and get a snake referral. I understand you don't have a snake vet near to you, but you might be able to do a phone consult and text/email your excellent pictures to him. They clearly show the serious nature of the situation. Please try. Keep us posted. We care very much.

Sorry to repeat. I was typing while Dolly's Mom posted. Thank you for finding the link for them! Please call them.
