Happy New Year.

I have a snake that is eating well but losing weight
dramatically. I'm wondering if it could be due to Cryptosporidium parasite. How easily is this parasite
passed on? Is it enough to wash the cage with bleach?
Please could anyone give me details of this parasite.

I'm also interested to know how common this parasite is?

OK, I remembered reading something about Cryptosporidium in Kathy Love's book and consulted it straight after reading your post. Cryptosporidium causes regurgitation aswell as weight loss. In advanced stages the snake will have a swelling at its midbody. If your snake is eating well I'm guessing that means no regurges so it's probably not Cryptosporidium but you better take it to the vet as soon as possible in any case, if its not this parasite it could be another. I'm sure people who know alot more about this than me will give you a nice essay to read a bit later ;)

Truthfully, Crypto is somewhat rare but if you do get it in your collection it can be devastating!

A trip to the vet would be a good idea.
