My Blaze went to the vet today. He has the very early signs of a skin fugus or blister desease, so i am treating that with betadine (which will kill an bacteria) and he told me that...

1) snakes needed UV light (I know for a fact they don't)
2)they need a vitamin supplement (he said beta caretine (and that herpivite was fine)
3) only keep mice in frezzer for up to 6 weeks (i was told a year is max. for mice)

He is a reptile specialist. And i know he is well trained in his feild. He gave me some sheets with info and they back up what he had said but i think these sheets are ummm how do i say it wrong (not wrong but i dunno)

Any thoughts on the topic.

PS I am not a volunteer for a local Reptile refuge YAY!!!!

about the frozen mice..
I always heard that vacuum sealed could last for up to 2 years and once you open the pack, 6 mos.

He is not well trained if that is the information he gave you.

At this point the general knowledge on snakes and UV light is that snakes being nocturnal do not get the suns benifits in the wild, so giving them a UV light in captivity seems pointless, even stressful for nocturnal animals. So they do not require it and have been kept this way for many years. You are right, the vet is wrong. :)

Mice *are* still good in the freezer after 6 weeks. I have had mice in the freezer for up to 6 months. Sure, my mice are normally in the freezer less than a month, but sometimes they pile up and no harm has come to my snakes from this practice. Of course, you shouldn't fed a severly freezer burnt mouse, or discolored one...but if you prevent freezer burn you should be fine for much longer than 6 weeks.

He also gave me some caresheets obout snakes in general which back him up. We talked about alot of things with snakes and lizards and that was the only info that was wrong. back to my point the sheets are out of a book care of reptiles and i think he may have gotten some of the info wrong from that but i am actually gunna try to get Blaze in the sun more cuz i mean it can't hurt him. Also i knew i would have to do this after i moved blaze to eating every 10 days but i am going to have some mice that will have been there a year (in septeber) and i will have to get rid of them  but net time i order i will make a smaller one :D

Any ways thamnks for the help
