Hi i'm new to this forum so bare with me. I have two snakes one's a baby corn about 12in and the other is a baby black rat 16in. the corn is very calm "suprize suprize" but the black rat that i just got does not like for me to pick him up. He coils , tail rattles, and strikes somtimes hitting his mark. i have to use a leather glove to pick him up. But as soon as i get him up as long as i move slow his great, calm no bitting nothing. Is this just a phase b/c he is a new snake or what ? if anyone has or has had the same thing happen please help thanks

when did you get him? if hes new, then hes just scared from the new adjustment, give him about a week. if not then just try handling him for 5-10 min gently a few times a week so he can get used to it.

Also, it must be said, that some rats don't take well to handling at all and so you may have to be extra careful.

Try putting an item or your worn clothing in his tank. He should then become relaxed with your scent quicker and be less frightened when you pick him up.
