Some Dutch Vipers and Grass snakes

This weekend was a great weekend for herping. Spotted some Vipers and Grass snakes.

Hey you used some of the pics I took! Cool! Sunday was fantastic!! I had never seen a Grass snake before in real life, and now i've fallen in love with them! Such neat animals!!!

If you saw Natrix natrix (any of the sub species) in a pet shop I am suprized. They are illegal to keep. Not even with Budep paper work. They are highly endangered.

I went looking for grass snakes north of Amsterdam and the vipers in Hengelo (next to the German border).

beautiful snakes, especially the dark ones. are the dark ones the vipers? if so which species?

Yes, the dark ones are the vipers. And in Vipers you can tell the males form females by color. Females are brown like this:

I'll check it out next time I'm in the shop. The Latin name is not on the viv so I hope they kwow what they are. They are oliv green with black as far as I rememeber..... maybe any idea what they could have been?
