I got my first corn this past sunday. he ate a fuzzy within 5 minutes of being in his new enclosure. it is now friday and i attempted to feed him again but now he isn't interested. i have hides on the warm and cool side of the enclosure and everything else appears right. how long should i leave the fuzzy in with him and is it ok to refreeze it if he does not eat it? thanks, chris

If it wasn't left out too long I think it would be OK..but some folks will disagree. I would also suggest feeding in another container for fear of snake eatting the substrate, A feeding container per say. If he was feed on Sunday he is still fine. He might had some distractions when you feed on Friday. You can feed once a week if you want. So want until then to try again. And when you do, try slicing the back of the f/t fuzzy to help scent it

Good Luck

He's a beautiful snake.

What Lenny said, plus he may be getting ready to shed. Some snakes won't eat when in shed.

It's been two weeks to the day that my corn ate his first f/t fuzzy since i bought him. I tried numerous times to get him to eat since then with no success. Well, today i went to the pet shop and they just happened to have live fuzzies. I took one home, placed it in his cage and BAM! he nailed it within 5 seconds. I was so excited that I went back to the pet shop and got another fuzzy which he too demolished. Now, i'd eventually like to get him to take f/t always but I figure as long as they are fuzzies that can't inflict any damage there is no harm at present. My question is, when he moves to larger mice capable of infliciting damage, what feeding techniques could I try? Thanks, Chris

I would try using f/t on your next feeding. One technique to use would be to hold the fuzzy by the tail and dangle it in front of him. The movement usually gets his attention and he'll go right for it. good luck

I'll continue to try the f/t since I know that would be of most benefit to all involved. In the meantime here are a couple of pics I just snapped

That is a beautiful snake, as I said before. But why does it have a blue spot on its back?

Glad you got it to eat. Hopefully you'll be able to get it onto f/t without too much trouble.

I'm hoping it's genetic. I'm going to try to prove it out and if successful I will be taking bids starting at $10,000 for babies! Just kidding....some breeders at reptile shows dot their snakes with a marker or something to signify sex. I guess blue means male.........chris

thats odd I would think that a marker would mess with the corns sense of smell

I would feed a baby corn, depending on size, one pinkie every 4-7 days. But that is just me. Also to tell if he is ready to move up a size...Check to see how long the lump stays in him. It should be there for around 2 days usually. If there is no lump in under 24 hours you might want to consider bigger prey. Another tip to keep in mind: The prey should be no larger the One and a half times the size of the thickest part of your snake.
