4 days in alterna land proved to be very productive. 2 alterna, one longnose, one alligator lizard, and quite a few atrox.

The alterna phase was found on Juno Road (TX 163) and the blairs phase was found on US 277. Both are females.

What a great trip! I can see why the grey bands blend in the way that one was climbing up that boulder. And I always thought an orange striped snake would get spotted easily....

Definately looks like some good herpin'! I love the alterna and blairs. Gray-banded kingsnakes are a big weakness of mine!

I was raised in W. Texas (in N.M. actually, just past the state line) and that brought back some memories. The only other things to add would have been some tarantulas, coyotes, jack-rabbits the size of small dogs and those lovely scorpions. Great pics, and thanks.

Yes, forgot to mention, jack rabbits, freakin deer, and tarantulas. They are more of a given on a trip like this. Did see some bark scorpions and a couple mostly black scorpions (no idea what kind), but no vinagroons. Also found a few centipeds, they are quite interesting.

Everyone, thanks for the complements, I too like the alterna phase better, they are by far my favorite, but I wouldnt pass on a blairs either.
