Hi Everyone,
Its good to be back I have not had internet access for over 2 months.
This is my problem, My snakes picked up mites from a recent purchase that I made. I guessthe little bugs slipped by me.
So wanting to nip it in the bud I called one of the largest reptile stores here in Toronto and asked for advice. I figured that they were the pros. I was told that the best treatment was Black Knight mite spray. I was told that all I had to do was remove the snake and the water bowl spray the other contents let it dry and replace the snake. I was even told that I could spray the snake with this stuff.( I thought that this was wrong so I did not do that.)
So I removed the snake, dumped the Aspen, washed the container with hot water, sprayed and waited for the container to dry then I took paper towels and wiped out the container just incase there was an excess of the spray and used paper towel as the substrate so I could see the mites better. I did this with 25 snakes. This was on Sunday
To my horror when I got home on Monday one of my snakes ( an Amel Motley ) had died and 9 more were having seisures. I immediately rewashed everything with hot soapy water including the snakes to get rid of all the spray. It has been 3 days and the seisures are still happening
I am not sure what to do, I called the zoo and got a few #s for Vets but I had no luck. The one person that I spoke to did not enen think it was a good idea to bring them in.
Has anyone else had anything like this happen?? Does anyone have any advice??
Thanks for any advice you can give.

After the Black Knight you sprayed on just the cages this is happening?

That's odd because while I do not use Black Knight myself, I have talked to many many people who have, and who have even sprayed it directly on the snake. And do this often with their new imports or whatever. hmmmmm.

What vets in Toronto did you call? I am in the same location and did you get in touch with Links or High Park Animal Hospital? Both are good reptiles vets, although as you stated I don't know of any vet that is an "expert" in snakes around here.

For now I would just keep them quiet and well hydrated. I hope someone else can give you some insight, I have really never heard of that happening before with Black Knight.

Found some articles, or posts people had/have written about Black Knight. Not sure if these will help but at least some more info from others who have tried it. Seems some people have had quite some problems with it, including death and behavior problems.

Mentions Seizures as a problem with people not snakes though..

You maybe can try contacting a larger breeder you see in these messages either advocating or against Black Knight. Maybe they can give you some ideas on how to help your other snakes.
