At what point do you go from a "every 5th day" meal to every 7th or more ??.

Here's the schedule/plan I roughly follow:

-When they're on single pinks (2-3g), I feed every 4-5 days. (Snake = 4-15g)
-Double pinks (3g x 2) every 4-5 days. (Snake = 16-23g)
-Small fuzzies (5-7g) every 5-6 days. (Snake = 24-30g)
-Regular fuzzies (7-9g) every 5-6 days (Snake = 30-50g)
-Hoppers (9-12g) every 5-6 days (Snake = 51-90g)
-Weaned (14-20g) every 7 days (Snake = 91-170g)
-Adult (24-30g) every 7-x days (Snake = 170+)
-Jumbo Adults (40-50g) every 7-x days (Snake = 400g+)

Note: Adult females are fed more frequently than adult males (especially following brumation). Females are fed every 6-8 days; males are fed every 7-14 days.

I follow your schedule Dean, I think it's pretty reasonable.

I've been wondering where that post was, is there anyway you could put it in one of joe's FAQs for easy acess?

I have it in a word document on my computer. It's definitely a great reference.

I'm debating saving it to my notepad as well :grin01:

Joe is welcome to add this to his Feeding FAQ if he wants to, but I think he covered the question adequately without the schedule:

Q: How do I know when to move up to the next size mouse or rat?
A: Move up to the next sized prey item when you do not notice a visible 'lump' after 24 hours following a feeding. There should be a lump visible between 24-48 hours after any feeding. Also remember, feeding items that are over 1.5x the thickness of the snake can cause problems. Try not to feed any items that are larger than 1.5x the thickness of your snake.

Joe's answer is also useful because it doesn't require you to know your snake's weight. I'll probably sticky my schedule in the private forum I share with Matt/Jzal8 at some point.

Well the only reason I ask is, sure I appreciate the knowledge in Joe's FAQ. I guess in this day and age I like a lot of other people like to be told straight out exactly what we're supposed to do. It takes out the guess work.
Gooo lazy america!

I actually copied that feeding schedule onto a recipe card and keep it in my kitchen. I've been weighing my snake every 4 for 12 days now and she's gained 3g. 1g every 2 pinkies. I'm glad she's finally starting to gain weight. She was so small looking. I love this because I'm a poor judge of what exactly is 1.5x bigger. I now have no guesswork and I'm not worrying about if I'm underfeeding her.

When i got her she was 15g that was about 7 weeks ago she now weighs 21g.

I have it in my Palm Pilot, and actually made a really pretty copy of it to print, but haven't moved my laptop to where I can dock it and print it out (which would take one minute!) so I have Post Its with everyone's mouse size written on it. Inez- 7-9. Addy- 9-12. Choco and Zee- 14-20. I weigh the mice. I'd be very lost without my gram scale, now.

Once they start gaining, they can really gain fast! Zee went from 100 to 125 in two weeks!

I just got a digital kitchen gram scale, and I absolutely *love* it. I wonder how I lived without one.

If anybody else is thinking they want one, you can order them online for anywhere from $10-30.

I got my scale From weight watchers. I know I've become one of you. :grin01:

I use the same scale to weigh my snake and to weigh mice that I use to weigh my food. :crazy02:

You're the opposite of George. (Pet Corn Snake) I think he puts on a hazmat suit to handle mice.

I wouldn't mind using the same scale.

This is kinda weird,,"the mice I bought weigh 45 grams for 6,so thats about 7.5 per meal.On Roys chart, a mouse of this weight would be a regular fuzzy.
The mice I have LOOK like small adults, not fuzzies.
Infact,,the container says small mice(T-REX,Arctic Mice)
Does this seem normal or no ?.

I use T-Rex mice too. Basically, the T-Rex lines are smallish compared to "average". I wouldn't worry about it, just go by the weight.
