In previous years I have had some clutches that were really disappointing simply because I have 1 male in mind for that female. Sometimes with lavender and blizzard males their sperm count is low in a particular year or time of the year. By checking the overflow from the female's vent right after separation, you can easily see whether the sample contains few sperm or if the whole view is jumping and dancing before your eyes. If no sperm are ever seen from the "best" male then at the end of her cycle I will use another male just so the eggs laid ARE GOOD. My amel corn het for lavender & blizzard has never fathered any offspring from first clutches. But right now he is awesome for breeding when some other males are losing a bit of their fertility.
Get a cheap microscope and learn how to SEE sperm activity. Predicting good clutches becomes more scientific and accurate.
