Broken Jaw?

I have a 4 month old Corn Snake, and today I've had him for a week.

So I decided to hold him, he seemed comfortable in his tank, so I picked him up.

As I was examining him, his bottom jaw looks broken, I got him to open his mouth, and there doesnt seem to be anything abnormal in there, but the bottom doesnt line with the top, I've offered him food once before I handled him, and he refused it.

Is this something to worry about? Should I bring him to my vet? Will this conflict him with eating as an adult?

What could have caused this?
Do you think this will heal?

Any help at all will be appricated!

The first thing to remember is that the bottom jaw is loosely connected by a very elastic tissue- that's one of the reasons for their ability to stretch their mouth so widely.

I would venture a guess that it got loose or unhinged- this also happens naturally when they eat.

I'd say you should keep an eye out and see if the snake does not fix it himself (they often do by pushing against a hard surface to relocate their jaw)

If the snake doesn't do so- I would advise seeing a vet.

I don't think there's a real reason for concern at the moment, just give him a couple of days and see if there's any chance.

Have you got any pictures? I would wait another few days and offer him food again, and see what he does. If he sucessfully eats it then its probably nothing to worry about, but if he refuses it, (could be for a number of reason, including if his jaw isn't right) I would get him checked out at a vets.

Pictures would help us see if anything looks abnormal. :)
