My girlfriends snake Steve always always eats his dinner butt first!

Is this a problem, he never regurges or refuses just eats it arse about face, quite literally.

Without sounding flippant, no... some snake just seem to like eating mice backwards. And long as it goes in one end as mouse and some becomes more snake and the rest becomes poop, it's all good!

I've noticed that buttmunching is more common with the smaller prey sizes, i.e., I see it more often with pinks than adult mice.

That said, no big whoop.

You know how they tell which end is which- they poke around and feel for the skull, and they feel which direction the hair grows. It's hard to tell those things on pinks/fuzzies!

ALL HAIL The BUTTMUNCHER!!!!

Consider it a rite of passage in snake ownership

Regards,
Steve

P.S. I don’t think there are very many people on this board, that when faced with a similar situation the first time didn’t say to themselves “UUUHHH…are they suppose to eat a mouse butt first???”

It will probobly grow out of it as it gets older. They will start to find is hard to do because of the size of an adult mouse tail. Also just keep in mind that if they eat butt first it can cause the mouse to get logged in its throat because of the mouse legs. One way to stop them doing it is to feed doing the "walkiing zombie".

BTW this is my 200th post ... lol

I remember the first time mine ate backwards, I was right on the comp trying to find out if its normal or would cause probs. I have learned that its not much to worry about.

I was trying to write something witty about the poop coming out backwards, but it wasn't... 3 of my 4 babies ate yesterday, and one started out at the butt, but changed her mind and went around for another try. she ate it head first, but it was belly up. At one point there was nothing outside her mouth except for the two hind feet sticking up from the corners of her mouth. She looked like a wart hog. Wish I had my camera handy!
