first snake bite

so today i got my first snake bite. i was feeding the snakes at my store, and i had already fed the 2 smaller ones. i went in to get the larger corn to put in the feeding tub, and i guess i startled the snake, or it smelled the mice on my hands, and BAM it bit me! just a tiny droplet of blood, no real damage. it was a surprise though because this corn is the SWEETEST ever, so docile, likes hanging about (literally). it helps me vaccum the store every morning! so, the tale of my first snake bite. now that that's out of the way... pictures of the sweet lil beastie! (now that i have my own corn, i wish i could take this little beastie home, i <3 it so much!) however, i simply cannot afford another corn setup. after all is said and done, after buying the tank, gram scale, UTH, etc etc, i am running a total over over $550 dollars! and keep in mind i get everything AT COST (so pretty much 50% off) AND i didn't even pay for the snake! an expensive hobby, it is. but this corn is so sweet, and we have it in the store because the woman who owned it had to move overseas somewhere crazy, so she asked us to take it and find it a good home. so if i had the money, i would FOR SURE have another tank setup for this lovely baby!

annnnnnnnyways, pictures as promised! oh yeah, can someone please help me with the morph? i know it's an amel something or other. snow?

(captions and lolsnakes welcome!)

Cool looking snake :)

My local stores got a beautiful snow in, a little bigger than that one which i'd LOVE to take home... but money stops me i cant afford the snake AND a tank at the moment.

My solution: Im going to start buying stuff for my second setup now, that way next time i find a snake i like i can bring them home straight away :p

Congratulations on your first bite!
I love taking Cortez, my snow, out for walks and random tasks as well. However, he is quite a bit bigger.

Hi there, Very nice little Snow you got there.
The trouble of being bitten is the shock and the Adrenaline rush, no matter how small and painless the bite.
Wait until you get tagged by an adult Taiwanese Rat Snake or worse a 2 meter Boa.
It all adds up to why we love snakes and find them so fascinating.
Welcome to the Bite club, unfortunately I can't post Pics because mine happened long before I joined the Forum and I also didn't take any.

Ciao

With all the piercings, I'm surprised you'd even have any issue at all with a bite! My breeder Okeetee decided to clamp on my hand at feeding time the other night and wouldn't let go. I ended up having to spray her with the mister until she let go. I have a perfect imprint of two rows of teeth on the top of my knuckles and a single row of teeth on the palm of my hand. Trying to pry her off hurt more than the bite itself, but they have alot of power in those little jaws!

oooh the bite didn't bother me! it was just my first snake bite! kind of exciting, in a way, hahaha. thanks for all the compliments on the snake, really wish it were mine :(

i think i may start saving up money/supplies for another tank for when i move out, as i don't have money for another snake & setup now, NOR do i have the space in my room, which is where my mom has confined my pets to, hahaha!

You'd be surprised, lol! I did some work in a piercing studio a few years back and ive had quite a few done over time... including dermal punches but i still HATE the thought of having medicene through a needle and will try my hardest to avoid it. Yet i didnt think twice about having a lump of skin cut out of my nose with what is, basically, a cookie cutter for the human body. :laugh01:

I guess its all subjective!

Lucky you had a snake that size for your first bite. I'm still weary of snakes that big who are being pissy :p My first bite was a tiny hatchling kingsnake, lol.

hmmm, can a hatchling pierce the skin?

Stregone
01-16-2008, 11:36 PM
Maybe. I could sure feel its teeth. The little sucker was seriously trying to eat me. Why did you ignore the pinkie you were sitting next to for an hour?!

Hatchlings can pierce the skin depending upon where they get you. Mine seem to grab right between the knuckles when I'm feeding them. I usually go to small plastic tongs immediately to avoid it.
