Mites?

I was wondering how do snakes actually get mites in the first place? Is it from the bedding? If so what kind? Is it possible to avoid mites or is it something that just happens?

Snake mites can travel (see this link), so they can easily get into bedding kept in the same shop as infested reptiles. (The little mites commonly seen in reptibark are just woodmites, usually). Putting the bedding in a freezer should kill off any mites in there.
