My jungle corn, Rio, has spent the past week and a half always in view (which is weird for him) roaming from one end of his cage to the next. He also refused a meal last week. What is up with this? I don't actually know "his" gender, but could he be a male looking for a mate to hook up with?

Sounds like he's got the mateing urge.

How old is he? And if young, maybe he's just finally gotten comfortable enough to roam around!

sounds a lot similar to my snake. I dont know what sex it is either but he is out all the time these days which is GREAT because i can see him all the time and he hsa only had one small meal in 4 weeks. Just hasnt really been interested in food at the min. Hes healthy though so maybe it is the mating thing after all???

sounds like love is in the air -

I would hate to be a female snake in the wild. If our guys do this in captivity, just imagine what is going on in the "wild".

Probably not much different than it was for humans before "civilization." :D

I've noticed my own corn explore and wander more and more. I'm going with Nanci on this one, that he may just be getting the guts to roam around and leave the hide.

He is an '05 snake. So almost three years old. That is right around the time when it's okay for them to be bred, right??

Three years.
Three feet.
Three hundred grams.

That's the breeding mantra for corns.

Striker was out and about last night..I thought it was cause he was hungry as I was a few days late in feeding this time around...Well he never ate his mouse..I kept him in the dark room with the mouse overnight...still no luck..He's just over 2 feet..so he's not near the breeding size yet..but I think he is getting the urges..which is really tough on me..I worry when my snakes don't eat..thankfully Kunai and Maize ate like champs :0)

He was trying to lose a few grams. ;)

Anyhow, congrats on the feeding. I hope he sticks with it.
