Question about frozen mice

Does anyone know how the frozen mice one buys in bullk are killed?

Just a smallish qualm before I get my first corn.

Cheers,

Margaret

They should be euthanised with anaesthetic gas or blunt trauma. In the UK these are the only legal methods.

I have heard horror stories of mice being suffocated or frozen though, but any reputable dealer should be quite willing to tell you how they do this.

Thanks, EtherRex. I have found a source here for frozen mice (in Australia). I'll be asking some questions!

Cheers,

Margaret

CO2 gas is commonly used here in the states. The mice show no signs of blunt trauma.

I would actually be wary of using a mouse that showed signs of blunt trauma. I have heard that bone splinters, broken ribs etc can be dangerous for the animal consuming them. None of the (admittedly relatively few) mice that I have fed to my snake have shown any signs of trauma either. I am guessing that this is because it is far less hassle to gas them en masse than it is to bop each of them on the head with a small silver hammer. Any feeder animal breeders out there care to comment please?
