Active after Feeding?

Em Wright

The Ice Queen
Last night we fed Mali for the first time since she got here. I was a little concerned about her taking a full pinkie she my boyfriend (who is in charge of feedings :p ) cut the pinkie in half. I didn't want to disturb her too much, so we put the pinkie in the plastic container she came in and set it in her cage. It seemed to work well. The day before when we tried feeding her we picked her up and put her in the container and she refused to move or accept the mouse. But last night she had it gone in a matter of minutes.

My concern now is that she seems to have become really active. She's taken to stretching herself out along the side of her tank and then stretching out across her hide. She just recently went inside her hide and hasn't come out, though we went ahead and offered her the other half of the pinkie.

Is it normal for her to move around so much after feeding or should I be worried? I was expecting her to find a warm spot and chill out for a day or two while she digested.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Normal. She'll probably go digest in a little while, but I wouldn't be surprised to see her out and about 24 hours later. When you look at the size of the pink compared to the size of the snake, compare the pink to the widest part of the snake, not the skinny little neck. You can feed a pink one to one and half times the diameter of the snake at the snake's widest part. I'd just take away the other half and feed again in five days.

Yeah she wasn't too impressed with the other half. We removed it and she seems quite content to stay in her hide now. She's poked her head out a few times, but I think she's finally relaxing.

I was worried at first that the pinkies might be too small, but after she took down that half it nearly disappeared in her belly area. Today I had to really look for it. So next time I'm going to offer a whole one and see how she does.

I was a bit apprehensive about feeding her so soon after shipping, but Thursday was the two week mark since she'd been fed and she seemed to be settling in quite well so I decided to go ahead and at least try to feed her.

Thanks Nanci for the advice! :)

EDIT: That should read I was worried the pinkies might be too large. Not small. Hopefully that part will make sense now. :p

My jungle girl stays out all night every night, even after feeding. The only time she doesnt show herself is when shes in shed.

From what my boyfriend said she's been sticking to her hides most of the day. It's now midnight and she's in her cool hide at the moment. I'm not going to mess with her until Monday or Tuesday, going to work makes curbing the tempation easy. :p

Thanks for the info guys!
