I took on another 3 non feeders on the brink of death from a friend tonight, they haven't eaten since they hatched 2 months ago. I just couldn't leave them there :(

2/3 ate a chicken scented pink from the tongs, I could have cried with happiness! It just makes you feed soooo good :)

One had to be assist fed, but thats ok, it's the fattest and doesn't have horrible skin folds like the other two.

They are siblings of Fetish, the kinky grey lady, and yes one does have a small kink, but only on the tail. Looks like some sort of incubation issue or even a genetic issue.

SOOOO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!

Non feeders my butt! It just takes patience and working out how they want food presented to them.

Both sisters to Fetish, the kinky grey lady. This is the only other one with a wee kink or two in the tail.

The skinniest of them all with horrible skin folds :( At least she has a full belly now!

Heres the fattest of the 3, and sibling to the female motley I have had here for a while (who is now feeding). Unfortunatley their brother didn't make it :(

Thanks dude. It just tickles me pink to see these babies willing to eat. They take AGES to get it down though, probably because of how weak they are.

But pooping and drinking well so I'm much happier!

They are all so goregous, I absolutely love the Anery Stripes. Congrats again on getting more non feeders to eat, your becoming an expert of non feeders, lol.

Did these guys take a normal pinkie or did you chicken scent them? I'm getting a non feeder tomorrow so I'm studying up on tricks to use.

Congrats for getting them on their way to recover Elle.

As far as the chicken part of your last post, can you actually feed chicken cubes to snakes instead of pinkies/mice? (I'm not sure if that is what you are doing, but this silly question popped in my head when I read your post)

She isn't feeding them chicken, she is scenting the pinkies with chicken. I went back and read, I can see why you thought that though.

Thanks for the response Katie, but I actually wanted to know if can be done. :)

I have heard of people that have feed baby chickens to large adult corns but I have no clue if they would take chicken slices or if it be healthy. I'd like to know about that too.

I've heard that feeding just parts of chicken would be unhealthy, because the snake needs everything in the prey, bones, organs, etc, and all that wouldnt be in just a chunk of chicken meat.

It was a great night here at the non feeder rehabilitation centre... A friend brought down a few of her troubled hatchlings, all of which ate the same night. I have 8 out of 10 going strong, but two that are quite simply starting to piss me off...

All the babies are just wanting to visit you elle--they are refusing to eat until they can see you! You're just baby snake magic!

I was just asked on a different forum whats my trick, and heres my answer...

"I give non feeders two chances to eat on their own, then go into assist feeding. I do this for a maximum of 6 meals (always offering them the choice to eat first, then if they refuse assist feed). If they don't eat after this then I won't assist feed any longer. I don't want to force these babies to stay alive. If they eat they eat, if they don't they will surley die. I am so very lucky that all but 3 have decided they wanted to eat. One I euthanised because he was unbelieveably thin, I got him at 2 months old and he had never fed out the egg. He was also impacted and the best thing for him was being PTS.

The two I have left not willing to eat on their own have only had one assist feed, one of them ate voluntarily 2 weeks ago but not since. I'm sure that one will be easy to turn around when I find out EXACTLY what it is he likes. I have had HUGE success this year with chicken scenting (especially cooked meat slices rubbed all over the pinks). But I don't think this is enough, I have found some like their prey wiggled, some like it held perfectly still straigt in front of them, some like it left at their hide and I even have one who doesn't want to know it's there so you have to drop it in during the day when hes sleeping so he can find it as a surprise at night LOL.

It's a combination of WHAT you offer and HOW you offer that you need to tailor to fit the individual wants of each hatchling. Something that takes a while to learn... It's sort of like snake psychology LOL"
