Hi all,
I've had several snakes in my time and never had a problem eater. This time around, I have a new anery hatching who has been in my house for about 3 weeks now. I have been handling him infrequently to give him time to adjust, keep his light on a timer and keep a close eye on temperature and humidity levels.
Once a week for the past three weeks, I have taken Shiva out, put him in a separate container for feeding and left him alone in the dark. After about an hour, I would check on him, but with no result. I then left him alone for about 2 more hours each time. Still, he didn't eat, so I would try a couple of common fixes and leave him for longer.
How long is it ok for me to leave the pinky in there? I am using thawed frozen food. I've tried braining, I've tried flavoring, I've tried pheremones. No luck. Is it safe to leave a dead rodent in there overnight? Even if I do, how likely is it the snake is going to eat something that's just laying there limp all night?
He still seems active and healthy, so I'm not overly concerned yet, but exactly how long can a hatchling go without food?
