I found a really nice piece of wood for my tank today, but it's too large to fit in my oven for sterilization. It's too large for the freezer too. Any ideas on how i can kill any critters left on it?

I soak wild wood in about 20/70 bleach/water solution for about an hour or two and then run the shower on hot full blast aimed directly at the wood for about 30-60 mins with the bathroom door shut to get rid of the bleach. Never had any problems with this method either.

I had that problem with wood for my boa's cage. I tried the bleach, but apparently didn't soak long enough, because there was still ants in it.

This is what I came up with:

The thing about bleach is you need to rinse it REALLY well.

Go here:http://www.kingsnake.com/forum/caging/ and do a search for sterilizing wood. You'll find lots of information.

the grill sounds like an excellent idea, and i just got a new gas grill last weekend. how long did you cook the wood in each spot?

Can't remember exact numbers, I waited while it sizzled a while. Nothing alive on it after that.
