  • it's one of my champagne corns. I forget which one but looking at the pink it must be a male.
Ah sorry! I didn't see this! I will be taking new pics in the very near future as the weather warms and I can take outside pics :]
Hey, thanks for the inquiry on my wall! I do still have that little black motley and she's doing great! Will turn 2 this summer. I definitely have more pics-- I'll have to add to her album. :)
I think you'll like racks. I was really reluctant to change, and now I love them.
I have 64 quart Sterilite Economy Plastic. I have belly heat, with heat cable. My hatchling racks are Reptile Basic, back heat, Flexxwatt- shoebox racks. The hatchling racks are NOT escape-proof as is. With the 64 quarts, I put a piece of cardboard under the bin until the snake is 150 grams or so. I run two racks on one Spyder Robotics Herpstat ND thermostat (which they don't make any more :-( ) and I have a digital probed thermometer, dual probe, in each top bin of each rack for the adults. I get the thermometers from Big Apple Herp. I figure the most important thing to me is what is the hottest temp in the highest bin. I put one probe right over the heat cable, in the bin, and then the other probe about an inch out from that. So I'm reading the max temp, and the temp most likely where the snake is. I don't worry about the cool temp.
Oh thanks so much for getting back so quickly. I am ordering a blizzard and saving for a pair of sunglow stripes. Aren't Kingsnakes immune to venom? We have a daughter that moved to Cornwall, Ontario about 5 years ago.
    Hi Myca!
You can place the UTH directly under the plastic tub, attached to a thermoSTAT, which will regulate your UTH temperature so you have no worries about the plastic melting! You'll want your temp. to stay consistently around 86. Some UTH's get upto 120 if they are not regulated.
You can get a thermometer at the petstore. You place the probe on the inside of the tub, directly on the plastic above the UTH, which will be on the outside underneath.
This will tell you your temps.

You're definitely not ignorant, this is all part of the learning process, we've allll been through it. I personally have my snakes in glass viv's, but I know theres many members on here that use plastic tubs within rack systems. You will definitely get more in depth advise on how to set up your plastic tub best if you ask in the husbandry thread :) I want to get a Mexican black kingsnake, and plan on housing him in a plastic tub aswell, so I'm learning the best "How-to's" also :)
