Joanie Stubbs X Cy Tolliver

Joanie is a Honey Tessera homo or het for motley and Cy Tolliver is a Diffused Sunkissed. Expected are Sunkissed Motley Tesseras, Sunkissed Motleys, Sunkissed Tesseras and Sunkissed. Joanie laid a nice clutch of huge eggs, two slugs on 5/13/2020. Not bad for a first time breeding!

All babies are out of the egg! All are sunkissed and there are obvious tessera, but what is with the spotted stuff? In researching, all I have been able to find is sunspot, but that is a type of stripe, right? This clutch is a honey tessera het or homo for motley crossed with a diffused sunkissed het for motley. Thoughts?

I am not an expert at all, but those look like sunkissed stripes to me. Since stripe is recessive to motley, I wonder if your visual motley is actually het motley het stripe.

Thank you, hypnoctopus! That would mean that both the male and the female are het motley het stripe. What are the chances of that?

It was suggested in another forum that the male is actually a motley sunkissed versus a diffused sunkissed het for motley (as he was sold to me). If both are homo for motley, could those striped looking hatchlings be a variant of motley? The two sunkissed looking hatchlings have almost no (but some) belly pattern.

This one has me stumped and any assistance is appreciated!

Thank you,

-Tonya

No, to get the stripes, and that one baby is *definitely* a sunkissed stripe, both parents would have to be motley-stripes genetically. Every single baby in this photo appears to be homozygous motley. Sunkissed is weird and will sometimes cause some checkers to remain even in a motley individual.

This has been the most fun clutch this year! Here are a few holdbacks.
