Regurgitation question
I have had my corn snake for about 2 months. She weighs 13 grams and hasn’t had any problems. I feed her 1 pinkie every 5 days and she does fine. The time before the last feeding I weighed her and she had started to lose weight. So I fed her a normal pinkie and a very small one that I had from when I first got her. She did fine and then went into shed. So I didnt feed her for a week until she shed. Her shed was perfect and I fed her 2 pinkies after she shed. It had been 10 days since her last feeding. Today which was 2 days after feeding I noticed she had regurgitated. If I wait at least a week to feed her again (as is suggested in other areas of this forum) it will be 19-20 days from her last successful feeding before she can be fed again. Is this ok? It seems like a long time to me but this is my first snake and I am still new at this. I just want to do whats best for her and hopefully avoid any more problems.

2 pinkies for a 13 gram snake seems a bit much to me. Snakes sometimes regurgitate if the meal is too big.

I think you are right. The pinkies I have are different sizes probably because they came from a small pet store so some are bigger than others. I just thought because she had lost weight that I wasn’t feeding her enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
So is it ok to wait 2 weeks before her next feeding since its been almost 2 weeks since her last successful feeding?

The next time you feed also giving a smaller meal helps with keeping it down

There is a regurge protocol in one of the threads.
You will want to read up on it, and follow it, to hopefully prevent another regurge. It can be hard on their body, and if they do it again, the chances in crease for repeat regurges, and will likely end up badly. Wait 10 days from the last meal (the one she regurged), then feed a pinky head only. The regurge protocol goes through gradually bumping up food size after as regurge. Also, look into picking up some NutriBAC, which helps get their digestive track back in order. It also acts as an appetite stimulant. I keep it on hand at all times. |
HERE is a link to the FAQ page with regurge information, by Kathy Love.

Thanks for the help I really appreciate it

They can regurgitate for a couple reasons, one (as mentioned is from prey size being too large for them to digest), another is if they're in shed, temps too warm or too cold, or too much stress. It can snowball into a bigger problem if not corrected right off the bat. Good luck, I hope it helps! Let us know if you have any other problems. |
