vaccuum packing Frozen Pinkies
Hi everyone have any of you done this? Well I ha this bright idea to vaccuum seal a bunch of frozen mice and hoppers which went fine they still look normal but the pinkies which were frozen and solid well and after sealing them they look mushy dark red yellowish and gewy. Just wondering if this is normal and possibly cause they dont have the solid mass like an older mouse or if I have just ruined a bunch of my snakes food. I dont think they ddefrosted in the time frame that I had them out to do this but the machine does get warm and Im thinking that they may have partially defrosted. anyways please let me know your thoughts on this thanks.

If they are squished/mushy they must have at least partially defrosted at some point in time. I vacuum seal everything from pinkies to adults and have not had an issue. (that said, I also don't use a machine I just use the ziploc hand vacuum bag things) :shrugs:

I vacuum pac my pinkys. I've had the occasional 'pop' while thawing but most do OK.

so if they partially defrosted r they still ok? and when u say pop you mean oh yuck thats just not good.

The only food items that I have had "pop" have all been due to overheating in the thawing process. :shrugs:

I haven't had that issue (or them popping). Sometimes they end up with a little bit of a criss-cross pattern from the bag, though.

I have only had one feeder "pop" and it was on its way into the snake lol. She ate it anywa and even tried to scoop up the "stuff" that had fallen out lol.
