Did you take the dust cover off the keyboard yet? I was listening to rock while cleaning snake containers and feeding. Riders on the storm played and I always enjoy hearing that one. Then Procal Harem classics played. I watched a couple videos of the Butterfy from when Mike Pinera joined the group, a Tampa native.

Actually, not for a while. Been meaning to putter around on the keyboard but haven't seemed to make the time to do it.

Not a good excuse, I know, but best I can come up with.... :-poke:

I used to be able to play the keyboard part of Whiter Shade of Pale verbatim. Not a chance I still remember that one. I'm surprised I can still play the piano part with my left hand with the flute solo with my right hand of Color My World. Most of the time... :)

Definitely a case of me forgetting more than I can remember of those days.

I have to admit, I am a certified procrastinator. I need to work on my sailboat, need to do a little landscaping, want to do some watercolor painting, bought tile for the snake room, need to handle the corns, want to practice with the air rifles and home protection, and here I sit on the computer. Oh well, maybe later.

A couple years ago my sister-in-law invited us over for a Christmas party. She had invited some of her musician friends, and they all brought instruments. She plays the flute, others had a keyboard, saxophone, guitar, bass guitar, and a small drum set. I couldn't believe how well they sounded, since it was an impromptu session, and they had not practiced together.

I've seen really talented people who could basically do anything and play anything and make it sound great. Admittedly I have always been envious of such talent. That side of my brain just doesn't work as well as I would like.

As for procrastination, I'll decide later as to whether I am a procrastinator or not.

I think I hatched before that side of my brain developed. I guess I'll just have to admire the talents of others. If you want to see talent look on YouTube for Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (3rd movement) cover by Tina S. They say only death and taxes are certainties, but I'm certain I could never play like that on a guitar.

There are a couple national associations for procrastinators. My friend sent me a form to complete to become a member. It was about 12 years ago, but I haven't sent it in yet. My friend said I should send it in now and I may be a shoe-in for an officer position. I told him I don't like to rush into things.

I saw Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake and Palmer in concert and I was very depressed afterwards. I knew there was not a chance I could ever come even close to emulating what he could do on keyboards. Even in 10 lifetimes. I can barely span an octave with one hand on a full sized keyboard. Emerson looked like he could span an octave and a half. At least...... And, of course, there was that "talent" thingie too....

I don't think there are too many who could emulate him. In his heyday there were none close. Rick Wakeman has a place in history too, but Emerson not only had talent, but he was a showman too. It's sad that ELP lost two members in 2016.

I saw that about the two ELP guys passing away .. when I heard how they died I presumed one fell to cancer and the other guy shot him self afterwards in despair but it was the other way round and not connected

I saw a video interview with Palmer and he said the nerve damage Emerson experienced caused him to be depressed. He knew his best days of performing were behind him and he shot himself in despair. Lake died after a long struggle with cancer 9 months later. Life is fragile, enjoy it while you can.
