I crossed a lava het snow stripe to a kastanie het snow two years ago to get the parent snakes for the clutch this guy came from. Looks a little tan in color to be an anery, but I only have experience with hatchling kastanie and rosy bloods (diffused kastanie). I looked up the kastanie motley...
I lost a long time companion last night and I felt it necessary to create a place where I could publicly pay homage to her. Savannah was a rescue my stepdaughter adopted in 2000. She was four at that time. When she moved six years ago she could no longer have pets, so Savannah came to live with...
Started out looking like a normal anery, but after a shed and a couple of weeks I took a close look and the pink is creeping in. The dad is a salmon snow. Good example of strawberry showing up in F1s.
Haven't had time to get to the camera lately. Here are some that have caught my eye so far. First is an amel terrazzo, then a normal terrazzo, another amel terrazzo, a super bright lava, and the last is a paradox lava. Note the black markings.
These just crawled out of their eggs and are awaiting their first shed. The clutch contains normal, amel, lava, and possibly lava amel terrazzos. I'll have a better idea of what is here after they shed. These are from a breeding project I am doing for South Mountain. Thanks, Don!
This popped out this morning. There may be one more of these that has pipped. Can't quite tell yet. The anery tessera also came from the clutch. Female tessera het anery and ultra bred to salmon snow male.
Saw this guy today at work. I have seen four snakes out and about this spring; a banded watersnake, a black racer, a greenish rat snake, and this cottonmouth.
What's everyone's take on the recent occurrences of bird mortality that are being reported? Some of the explanations being offered and reported by the media seem a little strange. And what about the fish kills that are also occurring? These are more common, especially here in the south, and are...
I am putting out feelers for a normal het hypo cinder, normal het cinder, or hypo het cinder. Age is not an issue (no senior citizens, though), but it has to be a female.
A friend of mine does landscaping and found this little guy in Myrtle Beach last week. It is not often that we see a w/c hatchling corns. I wish it had been a male to go with the locality female I have. She is already feeding on f/t pinks. I look forward to seeing her mature.
This is an SMR line pied side bloodred that just emerged. By the looks of the head I thought I would get some high expression on this one. I did get low expression, but the head is unusual.
Four years ago I caught a greenish rat snake in northeastern South Carolina. It was a male and not old enough to breed. I was unable to catch locality females that year for breeding in 2007. I did catch two adult females in 2007, but it was well into summer. In 2008 I successfully bred the male...
In spring the American shad travel up the rivers from the Atlantic Ocean to spawn. They have been harvested for hundreds if not thousands of years. Their roe sacks are a delicacy that are treasured by many. Here is our second consecutive pan of shad roe in as many nights. We just can't quit...
I caught this female just down the road from where I live on 3-12-10. She just shed today. I work outside every day and see many snakes. The cold winter we had has kept them in hiding for longer than usual. She had crawled out on the asphalt at dusk. The next car would probably have flattened...
The first photo is what I believe to be an Amel Lava Terrazzo. It is a female hatched at South Mountain this year. There were two albino Terrazzos in the clutch, but their eyes were different. They had typical amel eyes. This one has pupils that are pinkish with iris color matching the ground...
