We went to Manasota beach last Saturday to see if crabs were washing up with the dead fish. We didn't see any, and all of the larger fish had been removed, also no crabs were found dead. What surprised me was that no seagulls were scavenging the dead small fish and eels on the beach. I got to wondering how, or why, they discerned that they shouldn't eat the fish? From all I've read the red tide will kill the fish, but the fish aren't poisonous. Our friends went fishing in Boca Grande and said they coughed for 5 miles
of red tide before getting out to cleaner water. Yikes.
