Tail rattling

I am new to keeping a corn snake. Sometimes, I think when he's scared, he whips his tail back and forth, like he's pretending to be a rattlesnake. Is that normal?

Yup, totally normal. Usually it's a defensive/scared reaction, but I've also seen them do it while eating prey, so I think it might just be any state of excitement for them.
